World Retina week is observed during 23rd-29th September.

Regular eye check-ups are crucial for early detection and management of diseases that can affect the retina.

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Common retinal diseases include:

Age-Related Macular Degeneration:

A leading cause of vision loss in older adults, it affects the macula, causing central vision deterioration.

Diabetic Retinopathy:

A complication of diabetes that damages blood vessels in the retina, leading to vision impairment and potentially blindness.

Retinal Detachment:

A serious condition where the retina separates from the back of the eye, requiring immediate medical attention to prevent permanent vision loss.

Retinitis Pigmentosa:

A group of inherited disorders causing progressive degeneration of the retina, leading to vision loss over time.

Central Serous Chorioretinopathy: Characterized by fluid accumulation under the retina, leading to distorted vision, often linked to stress or steroid use.

Retinal Vein Occlusion:

Occurs when a vein in the retina becomes blocked, leading to bleeding and swelling, which can affect vision.

Uveitis:

Inflammation of the uvea, which can affect the retina and lead to complications like vision loss if untreated.
