The speed and manner in which you react to the following eye emergencies will contribute to the healing outcome.

A. Foreign object in the eye

  • Do not rub the eye
  • Blink repeatedly while holding the upper eyelid
  • Rinse the eye with pure water if object is still in the eye
  • Consult your Optometrist immediately

B. Chemical spillage

  • Do not rub the eye
  • Rinse the eye out with pure water
  • Avoid bandaging the eye
  • Consult your Optometrist immediately

C. Trauma / direct blow to the eye

  • Do not rub the eye
  • Apply cold compresses without any further pressure to the eye
  • Consult your Optometrist immediately especially when there is a change in your vision, pain, bleeding or a bruise.
