On heritage day we celebrate the rich culture that we have inherited as well as our diversity. We usually don our cultural wear to symbolise our personal heritage.

The celebration of our heritage is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, each other and our history. Knowledge of self can give one the confidence to share one’s story and strengthen our national unity as we learn to see each other anew. How you see matters.

Learn your history and encourage children to read from an early age so that the quest for knowledge is instilled in them. Moving on from Heritage Day, let us remain cognisant of our fellow South Africans.
